Why was Benazir Bhutto a great leader?

Leader is a person who influences a group of people towards the achievement of a common goal. In Benazir Bhutto's own words, “leadership is about the strength of one’s convictions, the ability to endure the punches, and the energy to promote an idea”. 

She was a leader for her dogged determination to bring democracy in her country, Pakistan. Her achievements were even greater because she was a female political leader fighting to bring modernity, communication, education and technology to Pakistan. Her leadership was more challenging because she was a woman. Women during her era had to go the extra mile to prove they are equal to men. On top of that she had a very conservative demographics to work with. But twice she prevailed in restoring democracy. She was assassinated on her third attempt. Shortly after her death, her son remarked (captured on video) “My mother always said, ‘Democracy is the best revenge.’ She cared for her people and her people looked up to her. She will be remembered for her commitment to democracy, to freedom and to “we the people”.
